With each new version of WordPress, the argument whether or not it qualifies as a CMS gets a little quieter. In the WordPress core we have widgets, custom fields, custom taxonomies, and with version 2.9, an expansion of get_post_type. Add a few plugins and all sorts of post-types and custom write panels become a reality.

So.. What are Widgets?

WordPress Widgets (WPW) are like a plugin, but designed to provide a simple way to arrange the various elements of your sidebar content (known as “widgets”) without having to change any code. The Widgets SubPanel explains how to use the various Widgets that come delivered with WordPress, and the Widgets page at Automattic explains how to ‘widgetize’ themes and plugins.

If you’re not a DIY’er, you could always contact 314media to create custom widgets for your sidebar. We offer affordable WordPress Widget Development services and custom coding at an hourly or project-based rate. Learn how we can customized your already custom WordPress webstite.
